So I want a website, A website is visual, right?
Nope. Wrong. The web is not visual. Or at least it’s not wholly visual.
Websites give the impression of being highly visual, but the truth is, the web is a ‘readers medium. People don’t passively look at a webpage — they read it (OK, some people ‘scan’ a website, but more on that later.
A web is an interactive medium that requires audience participation. They have to click on buttons, react to pop-ups – but most of that interaction involves reading and therefore, someone to write the words.
Facebook. Twitter. Blogs, text messaging, social networks, these have one thing in common; they are all based primarily on reading and writing. Which means if you want to drive interest, and hence sales, through your website, then give your customers something to read. And the more money you are asking them to part with, the more reading you’ve got to give them. So it’s vital to get your copywriting right.
